WHY A POOL

You've heard how important it is to have quality time, quiet time and family time. But did you ever think about where to spend those times? When you own a pool, suddenly there is more time to just be together. And it's much more enjoyable. You're not packing up the car, driving for miles, or paying admissions. Everyone can relax. A new pool is not just a great exercise and recreational outlet. It adds a whole new dimension to your entertaining. And there's no secret to getting the most fun and enjoyment out of your pool: Take your family and friends. Add food, drink and a barbecue grill. Allow for deck chairs, tables and a couple of lounge chairs. Mix well on a sunny day, and you have the recipe for great socializing around your pool.

It's ten in the morning. Do you know where your children are? Same place they'll be all afternoon and into the evening hours. In the pool. Splashing. Laughing. Pretending to be "Jaws." For once, where they want to be and where you want them to be are one and the same. When you own a pool, there really is no place like home and no place your family would rather be together.

Your pool is a place where your kids want to be, from the time they're toddlers through tense teenage years. A place to entertain friends, unwind after work, tone up, enjoy the morning coffee, or watch the stars come out. Your own pool- it adds value to your home and pleasure to every day of your life.

BUILDING A POOL

If your No. 1 reason for getting a pool or spa is because your brother, neighbor or college buddy has one, maybe you should reconsider. Planning, building and maintaining a swimming pool or spa is not a whim or keeping-up-with-the-Joneses kind of purchase. It's a major addition to your house. It dramatically alters the landscape of your outdoor living space. It can be a lifestyle change, albeit a positive one: more entertaining, more fun with your family, more exercise.

Building or buying a pool or spa is a major investment that always costs more than anticipated. Are you ready to take the plunge?

Why Do I Want a Pool, Spa or Hot Tub?

Have a pow-wow with your family, partner, and all members of your household for a "Getting in Touch With My Swimming Pool Needs and Desires" session. Everyone should write down the reasons they do -- or don't -- want a swimming pool, spa or hot tub. Consider each person's opinion, even the youngest at the table.

What Will I Use It For?

Do you plan on swimming laps? Did your doctor recommend a pool or hot tub for therapeutic reasons? Do you have visions of entertaining guests in and around your pool? Is it for your children and their friends?

What Type of Pool Do I Want?

There's a sea of styles out there, some you probably have no idea about. All kinds of shapes, sizes and combinations. This is one of the fun aspects of the project, it's like going "pool shopping." Research books, magazine, the internet, and visit home and garden or pool and patio shows to see a few spas or hot tubs in action and gather brochures.

What Size and Shape?

If you have a sprawling estate -- well, lucky you. Your biggest considerations are where on your vast property you want to place your swimming pool or spa, along with your horse barn, children's theme park, orchards and vegetable gardens.

For those of us with smaller sites, it may take some creativity, special design and compromise to make a swimming pool or spa work for your outdoor space.

What's My Budget?

Oh yeah -- that. Pool builders and suppliers always like to say, "there's a pool to fit every budget," which is a positive sales pitch, but a sales pitch nonetheless. Financing a swimming pool project is like any other home addition, and the funds often come from the same sources: home equity accounts or lines of credit, savings, inheritance, home loans, family, etc. Don't expect to finance it after a trip to Vegas, Atlantic City or your closest Native-American casino.

As with any home addition, expect it to cost more than you anticipated or have calculated.

Will I Maintain the Pool or Can I Afford to Hire Someone to do it For Me?

Ah, maintainance. Heaters, chlorine, bromine, pumps, pool vacuums, test kits -- the list of chores is endless. Are you up for the time commitment and monthly costs of maintaining your pool? Can you afford to hire a monthly pool maintenance service to do the dirty work for you? Research local rates and get smart about all that's entailed in maintaining a swimming pool, spa or hot tub.

When or How Soon Do I Want It?

If you're planning a wedding/pool reception at your house for even six months after start time -- don't. Be realistic about the time it will take to build or install your pool, and discuss with potential contractors which months will be optimal for construction.

There Are Three Types of Inground Pools

The different types of inground pools vary in price, often depending on where you live, and each comes with its own benefits. The descriptions below will give you a good introduction to your options, but your pool builder will know your area well, and can help advise you on which choice is best.

CONCRETE OR GUNITE POOLS offer the most design flexibility. They can be built in any shape, from traditional to free form, and are able to fit into irregular spaces, if needed. Gunite pools give you the most opportunity to customize your pool design — from fun and functional built-in features to textured pool surfaces. Gunite pools allow for maximum creativity, and typically take about 12 weeks to build.

VINYL POOLS are pre-engineered, less labor-intensive than concrete pools, and, usually, are your least-expensive inground pool option. Vinyl pools are available in dozens of pre-designed shapes, from classic to curvaceous, and can be customized with built-in features and with durable vinyl liners that come in a beautiful array of designer colors and patterns. Because vinyl pools are constructed from pre-fabricated materials and a simpler construction process, vinyl pools can be constructed in about 3 weeks.

FIBERGLASS POOLS arrive in one pre-formed, pre-finished piece, so installation is fast (usually 1 to 3 weeks)! Fiberglass pools come in a variety of shapes and styles to fit your lifestyle, as well as designer textures and colors to match your personal style. Besides the quick installation, one of the biggest benefits of fiberglass pools is their surface. The smoothness makes it difficult for algae to cling to it — and that means easier maintenance and fewer chemicals.

The Installation Process

Before you can enjoy your beautiful new pool, you have to endure a few weeks of “unpleasantness” in your backyard. Once you’re past the trauma of excavation and into the fun of designing, you’ll see that it’s all well worth it. There are three key stages of pool construction:

EXCAVATION begins after an access way to your poolsite has been made. Your builder will mark the pool layout in your backyard, and you’ll work together to make sure that any trees and areas you want to protect are clearly marked. You and/or your builder will need to gather all of the necessary permits, and then the heavy equipment will be brought in to dig the hole. Make sure that your builder has properly checked for underground utilities before construction begins.

FRAMING is the next step. Your builder will set and secure the substructure of your pool to keep it in place, then the bottom of the pool will be shaped and smoothed. Now it’s starting to look like a pool! The plumbing system will be positioned, and any necessary wiring will be installed. This is also when your builder will frame the surrounding deck and walkway areas.

FINISHING is the home stretch. Now it’s time to install the interior finish. It’s different for each type of pool. Gunite pools are finished with pneumatically applied concrete, vinyl pools will have a liner installed, and fiberglass pools will have a one-piece shell installed. Once this is complete, the pool will be filled with water and the builder will finish it off with coping, decking and anything else you’ve planned for your poolscape.

The Finishing Touches

While many of your customized features have already been built into your pool and deck, there are still some additional touches needed to complete your poolscape, including landscaping cleaning systems and safety features. Throw in some toys and comfortable pool furniture, and you’ve created an unbelievable family destination you’ll enjoy for years to come.

POOL CONSTRUCTION

Why Smart Buyers are Turning to In ground Fiberglass Pools.

Over 60% of our sales are to homeowners who are installing a new pool for the second or third time. They have owned gunite and vinyl pools before and know all too well all of the problems. “We just want a fiberglass pool, it makes so much sense” is a common statement we hear all the time.

Why not get it right the first time?

If you are shopping for your first pool do not make the mistake of learning about the differences in the various pool types the hard way. Avoid making the costly mistake many consumers have experienced by choosing and spending a lot of money on a concrete (gunite) pool.  Why buy a concrete pool and then go through the additional expense of a fiberglass resurface? So why is a fiberglass pool a smart option?

Speed of Installation

Your fiberglass swimming pool comes direct from the Leisure Pools manufacturing facility, pre-made and ready to install. In fact, you can be swimming in as little as four days. Compare that to a concrete pool that can take months to complete and during that time your backyard looks a mess.

Smooth Finish

Leisure Pools fiberglass swimming pools have a smooth clean gel coat finish that is non-abrasive. There are no sharp edges or rough finishes. Compare that to some pebble pools that are so abrasive they can harm your skin.

Surprising Strength

Leisure Pools fiberglass pools exceed the Australian Standards for shell thickness. The high tensile strength of fiberglass will allow the pool shell to flex without cracking to accommodate earth movement. No wonder aero plane manufacturers are using fiberglass to build planes! Vipel® Resin Case History!

Maintenance Free

The gel coat finish on a Leisure Pool not only looks great, it's so easy to look after. The surface is smooth and non-porous so it cleans easily and is very stain resistant.

Low Chemical Usage

No one likes swimming in a chemical cocktail but some pools require constant monitoring and expensive chemicals. Not so with Leisure Pools fiberglass. The surface is chemically inert so there is absolutely nothing in the pool surface that can alter the water chemistry. Hence, very low chemical usage and considerable cost savings on running your pool.

Great Designs

Leisure Pools prides itself on being at the cutting edge of pool design technology. All of our swimming pool shapes are new designs and reflect today’s thinking and architectural trends. There will be a Leisure Pools design to ideally suit your home.

Color Range

The color of the water is so important and only Leisure Pools offers the exclusive Aquaguard® color finishes. We also offer the same high quality pools in traditional white.

The Right Choice

Sometimes what we see in our minds doesn't always translate to the pool builder. With Leisure Pools, what you see is what you get. The swimming pool styles and sizes come off molds and cannot vary in any way.

Compatibility

Salt chlorinators, chlorine, fresh water systems, ozone systems all work wonderfully well with Leisure Pools fiberglass swimming pools. Whatever your choice may be, it will be compatible.

Warranty

If you are getting other quotes, ask if a structural warranty is being provided on the structure of the swimming pool. At best with a concrete swimming pool you will get a 15 year warranty – do you hope to have your pool last longer than 10 years?

Consider also that only Leisure Pools offers a 15 year warranty and our exclusive Aquaguard® gel coat finishes. Most other fiberglass manufacturers can only offer a 1 year warranty or no warranty at all.

Dispelling the Myth

The most common myth surrounding fiberglass pools and propagated by competitors in Gunite pools or Vinyl Liner pools is that "Fiberglass pools pop or float out of the ground." When you are told this you should immediately ask just how a pool with 80 tons of water in it pops out of the ground.

The reality is that no more will a gunite or vinyl liner pools pop or float than will fiberglass pools. In fact any watertight object will float if there is more water under it than in it. Pools can only float when they are drained and the water under the pool exerts upward pressure because there is no water in the pool.

So why would you need to drain a pool? Gunite pools need frequent draining to remove cracks, acid wash, clean stains and re-plaster the pool. Similarly, vinyl liner pools must be drained to replace liners or repair liners. Fiberglass pools carry a lifetime warranty and never need resurfacing so there is no need to drain the pool. So the end result is that many more gunite and vinyl pools float than do fiberglass; don't be fooled.

Anyone concerned with water under the pool should consult their pool dealer and have a simple drain installed so that water under the pool can be monitored and drained if necessary. There is a wide selection of solutions so there should never be any damage to any pool as a result of high water levels under the pool.
